Learning expedition in Oakland
The program brought together Californian and French urban planners, urban communities, cities, artists and cultural institutions, social entrepreneurs, fondations, urban agencies and universities.
French delegation : Pierre-Emmanuel Becherand, Head of Department Architecture, Culture, Design and Creation/Société du Grand Paris, Julien Beller, architect and founder/Le 6b, Louise Fourquet, Associate Director/Baluchon, Laure Gayet, urbanist/Légendes Urbaines, Ben Lamyne, artist, Julia Lopez, artist and founder/La Maison Jaune, Emilie Moreau, Community and Social Innovation Director/APUR Atelier parisien d’urbanisme.
Californian partners (some of them took part in the previous learning expedition in Saint-Denis) : the Community Arts Stabilization Trust (CAST), the non-profit organization California Humanities, the City of Oakland, the department Arts + Design of UC Berkeley, the urban agency SPUR, the studio Morelab, Burning Man Project, the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA), Youth Radio Media, Shade Tree, Safe DYI and Destiny Arts Center.
The program
Interactions and experience sharing were structured in accordance with the following objectives:
Explore the city of Oakland, the stakeholders and challenges: what specificities and similarities with Saint Denis/ Grand-Paris
Describe and measure the impact of artists in the city
Promote the transformation of our territories by involving the artists and the inhabitants
Find innovative tools to build more inclusive and creative cities : share new models on economic, legislative and social levels.
